believing we can fly
“If I can see it, then I can be it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me runnin through that open door
I believe I can fly”
Music is so powerful for me.
But I used to think this song was just a cheesy number from Space Jam.
Now when I listen to the words, I see deep truth. I see the power of believing in yourself. In knowing that you can do it.
Because when the task seems too big or too daunting, we talk ourselves out of it. We buy into the false inner dialogue that we can’t or that we shouldn’t. Who am I to do this? What will people think?
But the truth is, if we just believe it, then we can do it.
This has been true in my life over and over again. Owning my own business. Becoming a coach. Landing a job in a totally new field. Marrying my best friend. Living in an apartment I love. Graduating college and high school. Becoming the person a younger me would have been proud of.
Even the small things. Like performing a solo. Getting up on water skis. Traveling abroad every year. Doing a handstand.
And you and me, we're the same. So if I can do it, you can too. I believe YOU can fly. What's one negative thought that you could let go of to start to believe it too?
