my job is okay
“My job is okay. It pays the bills. I don’t hate it everyday. I don’t really like it though, I don’t feel valued. I don’t feel like I’m adding enough value. Sometimes I just sit in meetings and listen, either afraid to contribute or with nothing to contribute. I’m not being challenged. It’s the same thing day in and day out. I’m not learning anymore.
But it’s what I know. I’m comfortable there. I know what to expect. I know what I’m getting into everyday. It’s safe. It’s easy.
So I can’t make a change. That would be too risky. What if the grass isn’t greener on the other side? Looking for a job is so time consuming. And what if I don’t find anything that really interests me? What would I actually want to do anyway? And if I do get a new job, I’ll have to start all over. What if I’m not good at it? What if it isn’t easy? What if I fail? Is it worth it?”
Does this sound familiar? Is this you? Are you wanting to make a change, but it seems like making the jump is too much? Maybe you don’t like your job right now. But changing it seems daunting enough that you’d rather play it safe and stay. Believe me, I’ve been there.
But is it worth it to grind it out all day, day in and day out? Coming home exhausted. Having just enough energy to eat dinner, watch TV and head to bed. Only to wake up and do it all over again. Counting down the days until Friday. Living for the weekend. How many years are you going to be okay with this?
And I get it. When we’re in it, we think we’ll just do it for a few more months, a year max. But that time comes and goes. And we’re still sitting at that desk, wondering where all our time has gone.
But we’re all capable of so much more. We deserve so much more. We CAN have a job that lights us up. That we enjoy. That we’re good at. That gives us energy. That makes each day something to look forward to.
I know you can. I know it’s possible for you. You just have to know it too.
