dreaming big

As young professionals, sometimes I feel we’re stumbling in the world around us. How do we get what we want, make an impact and get excited about our day to day? Does it feel more like working for the weekend and being stuck in the endless grind instead?

We all struggle with this. We’ve been told we can do anything, if we set our mind to it. Growing up, catch phrases like “dream big” and “reach for the stars” were on every birthday card. But then why don’t we feel more empowered and inspired?

I think society teaches us to stay small. Sure, dream big, but realize those dreams are far off. Once you start making six figures or once you’ve put in your time, you can actualize your dreams. Just wait. Work those crazy hours, keep your nose to the grindstone and you’ll get there. Someday.

But what if someday never comes? I’m now a firm believer that we can have what we want now. We can make an impact now. And getting excited about our day to day? We can feel that now. We just have to create it for ourselves. I’m not saying everyone should quit their day job (I know that would be ludicrous) but we can do better.

Have you ever sat down and thought about what you would do if you knew you couldn’t fail? If money wasn’t an issue, if you had all the time in the world, what would you do?

I think that’s the best place to start. Think about it. Dream for real. With the same awe and excitement as a 5-year-old at her birthday breakfast who believes she can truly “reach for the stars” when blowing out the candles. The world is wide open.

What would you really want to do? Who would you spend your time with? And how? What kind of impact would you have? What would make you excited every morning? Write it down. Get clear on what your dream life would look like. And let me know – I’d love to hear about it!

I believe the world is up for grabs, we just have to have the guts to reach for it.
And it can be hard. But let’s do it together.

Keep me posted on your dream, I’d love to cheer you on!
