rain, rain go away

It was pouring down rain as I was leaving a workshop at a hospital last week.

I was just thinking about wanting to get out of the rain, wishing it would stop so I wouldn’t get soaked on the way to my car, when I noticed a patient sitting in front of the window.

Looking wistfully outside.

And it made me think, maybe he’s wishing he could just go outside and feel the rain on his skin. Maybe he’s remembering a time he danced in the rain or maybe he’s wishing that he had done that more often.

And it made me pause. How could I wish away this rain? He might be wishing he could experience it the way that I'm going to right now.

So instead of thinking all about how I was getting wet or how uncomfortable it was, I chose to feel the rain. Instead of getting caught up in my thoughts, I decided to focus on each drop hitting my skin, my coat and my shoes. Have you ever noticed the satisfaction, pleasure and calm that comes from letting cold rain droplets hit your skin?

What a wonderful gift.

Sometimes we get so caught up in how we want it to be different that we forget to notice the good to be had in each moment. So what inconvenience or discomfort can you find pleasure in today? Let me know below!
