nature’s gentle reminders

The leaves fall and things change. It’s nature’s way of reminding us that we’re meant to grow and change and let go and rest. Just like the trees, we grow for so long, eventually we need to let go of our leaves and rest for the winter.

I’m so thankful that nature gives us gentle reminders to take care of ourselves.

The grey, cooler days make me want to curl up with a good book. They make me crave hot tea and soup. They make me want to stay an extra few minutes soaking up the shower’s warmth. They make me want to head to bed early and snuggle my loved ones. They remind me to take it easy and go at my own pace. They remind me that rest is good for me. As someone who used to gauge the day on how productive I was, this a reminder I definitely need.

The fallen leaves on a crisp, sunny day, on the other hand, make me crave the outdoors. These days make me want to run, skip and jump in the leaves. They make me want to take long walks so I don’t miss a moment of the changing colors. They make me want to sit on the porch curled under a blanket. They make me want to dance, twirl and sing at the top of my lungs. These days remind me to let go of the stress and the tension. To have fun, be silly, find joy.

Because we all need to remember that change is good. Change is part of life. Change means growth. And change also means there will be times of letting go and rest.

What kind of autumn day are you having? Is it time to let go or rest?
